Chapter Twenty-Two
Mason
Look at how attentive she is with him.
As I stare across the fire, my eyes burn from the smoke that has followed me no matter how many times I have moved. Rylie and Archer continue to have the luck of the day because the smoke has stayed away from them. Even when I was pressed up to Rylieâs side with Archer on my opposite flank, the smoke was only hitting me.
Jealousy rages inside me at all the attention my son is getting from my mate. The wolf inside me is both thrilled and upset about it while my human part is relieved how easy it is between the two of them.
Sheâs amazing with him.
A natural mother even if my son isnât hers.
A yawn is dragged out of Archerâs lungs, and his hands go to his eyes to try to rub the sleep away.
Looking up at the nightâs sky, I know it is long past his bedtime. Standing up, I ignore the smoke that tries to seep into my lungs and walk around the warm fire to crouch down next to him. âItâs bedtime, pup.â Ruffling his hair, I donât wait for him to answer me as I lift him from his seat on the log.
âBut Iâm not tired.â His protest is weak as another yawn comes out of him, freezing his chest for a moment.
Rylie already had him brush his teeth, so he is good to go right to bed. Using my shoulder, I push the flap of the tent open and settle him down into his sleeping bag. âWe will be right out here, okay? Go to sleep.â Kissing him gently on the forehead, I zip him up and back out.
âOkay, love you, Dad.â A longer yawn comes this time and he rolls to cuddle into the warmth. I know heâs tired because he isnât fighting me.
âI love you, too.â
âNight, Rylie.â
âNight, Archer. See you in the morning.â Rylieâs hand glides across my back, walking around me to bend down to sweep Archerâs hair off his head and give him a gentle kiss.
Smiling to myself, I back out and take Archerâs spot, and I grab Rylie the moment she steps out and crosses to sit next to me. Iâve waited all day to have her to myself.
She comes to me at ease. The perfect swell of her firm ass falls perfectly onto my lap. My dick stirs to life, stiffening when just the feel of her heat and her scent weave together with the campfire smoke.
Her bodyâs buzzing, and itâs tangible. My mouth salivates to kiss her again, to taste her skin against the pad of my tongue.
âIâm sorry if Archer was being too forward earlier.â Her body clenches. In desire? Or something else, Iâm not sure until I catch the scent of her arousal. âHeâs never seen me in a relationship before.â I canât keep myself in check anymore. I know Archer is out.
My lips pucker and brush against her shoulder, bared by the drop of her jacket. Her legs clench, shifting and rubbing against my very present erection.
